Meet China Anne McClain, Disney’s latest star

Watch out Miley and Selena! There’s a new Disney princess on the block and her star is rising!

Meet China Anne McClain, Disney’s latest star from the hit series ANT Farm, which is on Disney every Saturday at 9:40.

Created by Dan Signer (who is behind the success of The Suite Life franchise), ANT Farm was tailor made for China, reports the New York Times.

The publication reports that China first came to the attention of Disney when she auditioned for a role in Jump In. She got the role, but turned it down to star in Tyler Perry’s Daddy’s Little Girls, alongside her sisters Lauryn and Sierra.

But Disney was determined to get China, who can act and sing, on their books. She started out by making appearances in Disney shows Hannah Montanna and Wizards of Waverly Place, while the company was figuring out the perfect show for the starlet, reports the NYT.

And that’s how ANT Farm came to be, which according to Variety magazine, has already been picked up for a second season.

The story follows 11 year-old Chyna Parks, who happens to be a musical prodigal. Chyna is enrolled in the Advanced Natural Talents programme at the local high school. With her new classmates, they navigate the school halls, trying to avoid the older kids – who aren’t exactly excited about the younger kids, skipping grades.

China was born in 1998 to Michael and Shontell. In addition to her sisters, she has a younger brother, Gabriel.

According to China’s IMDB profile, her road to fame all started when she sang a song for her father’s friend, who joined the family for dinner. He encouraged China to audition for a role in The Gospel, which she did. She won the role of Alexis, and her sisters also make cameo roles in the movie as part of the church choir.

In Daddy’s Little Girls, China and her sisters play on-screen siblings who are caught in the middle of an ugly custody battle between their parents.

The three girls can sing! They have their own music group, The McClain Sisters, and perform two songs on the ANT Farm soundtrack.

In an interview with Teen.com, China said that their upcoming album will feature several dance tracks.

China performs an additional six songs on the soundtrack, including the theme song, Exceptional.
